Coastal resiliency and brownfield redevelopment are two important topics in New England. Funding is an important factor in determining the viability of a major coastal resiliency infrastructure project or proposed brownfield redevelopment. In many cases, grants and loans are available to offsite the significant costs of such projects.
Brownfield Redevelopment Grants
Current Connecticut development activities are primarily in urban settings. These development projects involve adaptive reuse of buildings and site redevelopment. Typically these are on Brownfield sites. This presentation will discuss Connecticut’s unique liability relief and funding programs to assist in overcoming environmental challenges.
Coastal Resiliency Grants
Inland and coastal flooding are affecting municipalities, businesses and homeowners now more than ever. The increasing need for resiliency and our understanding of natural processes has resulted in creative technical approaches and has triggered new funding mechanisms. This presentation will include general adaptive approaches to flooding problems, technical and practical obstacles that may be encountered, specific examples of completed or in-progress projects in southern New England and a discussion of available funding mechanisms.
